It’s Recycling week and here at Nourish HQ our thoughts have turned to what we do ourselves, both at home and at the kitchen to be waste warriors! This year's theme for Recycle Week is ‘Rescue Me’ focusing on those things that get popped into your normal rubbish, when they could in fact be recycled.
WRAP, the organisation behind Recycle Now, has some really interesting figures around how well we’re doing as a nation with recycling. Through WRAP’s Recycling Tracker, we know that 88% of UK households regularly recycle. This is a testament to the focus and investment from WRAP’s citizen-facing brand Recycle Now and its partners over the years. However, the data in the Recycling Tracker highlights that 87% of UK households recycle 1 or more items which are not accepted in the kerbside recycling and 57% miss one or more items which could be recycled at the kerbside. So what more could you be doing?
A few things spring to mind immediately for us, like keeping any clean plastics to drop off at a local supermarket, or recycling centres that deal with soft plastics, or composting any compostable packaging, like our Bites bags and Chilled Bars wrappers, but what about the trickier ones?
Here’s a few that we really weren’t all that sure about how to recycle ourselves. Let’s see if we can collectively, ‘rescue’ a few more things!
What else do we do to lessen waste at home? Here’s just a few of our favourites!
